Significance of Vishwakarma Puja

Vishwakarma Jayanti is celebrated across the country. People in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Jharkhand, Bihar, Tripura, and Odisha celebrate this occasion with utmost ecstasy. The day marks the birth of the Hindu god Vishwakarma, the architect of the gods, or Dev Shilpi. As per Drik Panchang, Vishwakarma Puja Sankranti will start at 7.23 pm on 16 September this year.

The ‘Bisuddhasidhanta’ gives utmost respect to this occasion. The day is celebrated in the eastern states of India as ‘Biswakarma Puja’. People celebrate it on the last day of the Bengali Bhadra month. They call it ‘Kanya Sankranti’ or ‘Bhadra Sankranti’. Vishwakarma Puja Ritual

People perform Vishwakarma Puja on the last day of the Bengali Bhadra month. It is also known as ‘Sankranti Bhadra’ or ‘Sankranti Kanya.’ Vishwakarma Jayanti is one of the most significant and auspicious day for craftsmen and artisans. People perform various rituals in their workplaces and temples on this day. Believers hold the puja ingredients along with the idol of Vishwakarma overnight. Clean all the equipment, and sit facing east. Sing mantras. Lit Akhanda Diya and do aarti. People apply turmeric and vermilion to the Vishwakarma Jayanti-worshipped machines. This will bring good luck.

The workers seek the blessings of Lord Vishwakarma. The next day, is the ideal is immersed in the sea. On Vishwakarma puja Day, kite flying is also a celebration in many Indian states such as Bihar and West Bengal. A sight of hundreds of kites flying in the sky is common. It is a season of celebration and joy. People even organize several kite festivals on this occasion.

Worshipping the elephant Lord Vishwakarma’s ‘Vahan’ (vehicle) is a ritual. His deity is in decorative pandals to perform big puja ceremonies.

Distribution of prasad (blessed rice) among all the workers after the ceremonies is also a ritual. Those who own the factories worship the instruments, as they get daily bread from their instruments. This festival unites the owners and laborers of factories as they all have meals together.
