In all our homes, a jar of honey is a staple and is considered to have tremendous health benefits. Up until the 20th century, it was used as a traditional medicine to combat infections. It is a natural antioxidant and contains properties that make it suitable for medicinal purposes, antibacterial and antifungal. It is also widely referred to as golden nectar or liquid gold, which is packed with antioxidants and inflammatory properties. Although you may hear a lot of information about honey out there, there are a couple of myths we want to bust for you.

Myth #1: It has a date of expiration

Fact: Honey never spoils and never needs cooling. In the tombs of the Pharaohs, archaeologists have found clay jars filled with honey, wine, and olive oil more than 3,000 years old. The olive oil and wine were rotten, but the honey was intact and still edible. Freshly harvested is better eaten and will lose its delicate flavors as it ages. While it will last forever, it will not taste good or maintain its health advantages.

Myth #2: If crystallized, it has gone bad

Fact: If you have crystallized your honey, that doesn’t mean it’s gone sour, it’s actually a sign of quality. It will return to its liquid state if you gently warm the bottle by placing the bottle in hot water and gently stirring it. Take care not to overheat it, because the delicate flavors are affected. Microwaving is not recommended, however.

Myth #3: It is only available in golden color



Fact: All honey is not equal, and the color, aroma, and taste of each honey vary depending on its terroir-area, soil, and environment, and the type of blossom nectar the honeybee collects. Honey is a product of nature that is agricultural. Each one will be different, just like apples and tomatoes. Honey has a range of flavors and, depending on the taste, the color varies. The color, taste, and scent will differ to a large extent depending on the source of the flower’s nectar, location, soil, and environment. The age of the honey and the storage in warmer temperatures often appear to darken the honey and alter the taste.

Fact: The dosage for taking natural remedies is not fixed. Everyone knows their own body and only you know what makes you feel healthy. A decent start is a teaspoon a day. Scratchy throats, signs of hay fever, and allergies will raise the immune system and alleviate them.

Fact: The only unprocessed sweetener that is present in nature is pure honey. It has naturally occurring minerals and vitamins that are not present in other sweeteners and they can be killed by heating it at 120F for as little as a few seconds. In order to avoid crystallization, commercially produced honey is also heated to high temperatures in order to select fresh honey from a trusted source. It is, unlike artificial sugars, filled with healthy nutrients such as vitamins and minerals. It contains pure sugar that helps the body control blood sugar levels, a mixture of fructose, and glucose. You can use less to enjoy the same effect and still have a natural, healthier choice. This is because it is sweeter than sugar.

Myth #7: One should not use a metal spoon.

Fact: By nature, honey is acidic. It’s an old wife’s story that it may be dangerous to scoop honey with a metal spoon. But it’s such a fast step to scoop up that corrosion of the metal is very unlikely. But also, for long periods of time, we’re not in favor of storing a metal spoon. If you want to store it for a longer time, you can use a wooden spoon or a dripper instead.

Myth #8: It is not gluten-free

Fact: Naturally, honey is gluten-free. There are several health benefits that gluten-free honey may provide, such as reducing cholesterol levels, encouraging digestive health, and increasing energy levels. A gluten-free diet will help your body get rid of viruses & germs because antioxidants, essential vitamins, and minerals would be high in many of the foods you eat.

Myth #9: White foam is a symbol of the spoiling of honey.


Fact: On the top of the honey, the white foam is actually small air bubbles that are created because of the trapped air in it that has escaped to the top of the container.
